Garima Ganeriwala works as an Associate consultant for a giant IT firm in Bangalore. She has around 4 years work experience in the IT industry after finishing her BE from BIT, Delhi University . In this interview she shares her view on business consulting in IT.

What are you working on now?
I work for Enterprise Solutions governance and consulting.

Why did you decide to take up this career?
I wanted to look at IT as a solution to business. My current job profile lets me be innovative. I work as a pro active IT market analyst who comes up with solutions of forthcoming or existing business problems.

What are the different career options available for someone who aspires to study this course?

A)     Technical Track

B)     Consulting Track

C)     Techno Functional Track

What is the potential in India? And abroad?
IT Solutions is the road ahead for all IT companies. Its about protecting your knowledge under patent, working out different pricing models and reuse code generated by your organization for various customers, there by reducing the cost incurred.

Which are the best universities for this course as per you? <Pls mention a line or two about ur college/univ for this branch>

What are the advantages of this career?
Solutions consulting gives you a good exposure on innovation and entrepreneurship.

What are the drawbacks of this career, if any?
You might not be coding very much. If you want to specialize in one stream technically, then this is not the place for you.

What is the hot thing in this field right now?
No Idea.

Who is your role model in this field and why?
NRN. He has created an amazing work culture in IT. Things are depleting now however.

What is the future of this career 10 years down the line?
Good, IT solutions is the way to go.

What are the kind of specializations available?
Usually the profile needs to be MBA. Mixture of finance and marketing is good.

Which specialization is the most commonly sought after? Also comment on the kind of pay a person gets after that.

What are the kind of companies that hire people who take up this course? Give egs.
I am engineer by degree. All IT companies can hire me irrespective of what specialization I do. J

It costed me 2 lakhs.

What is your advise to students who wish to see this field as an option?
Try to differentiate and find your field of intrest.
